The acronym PIRAS (Plan, Implement, Review, Adjust and Share)
is my approach to helping you bring your activism efforts to life:
Plan
Planning is the first and most important step. Do something you love and that you’re really interested in.
To develop a plan, you’ll want to think about:
Then commit to the plan and stick with it. If you get stuck, it helps to look for support so that you don’t feel isolated in your efforts. Do research on the internet and connect with like-minded friends, colleagues or people in the community who share your interest and who you trust.
Implement
Next, you have to take that leap of faith and go for it! You need to implement or start what you’ve planned. It is about taking accountability and making time in your day, each day to focus on this important goal. Be sure to include what measures of success look like for you. With these milestones in mind and marked in your calendar, but sure to celebrate them and reward yourself with a special treat that means something to you and that you’ll value even if it is something as simple as treating yourself to a Starbucks latte.
Review
Next, you will want to review what you’ve done and ask for feedback. Listening is as important as being listened to. Feedback also helps to ensure you’re going in the right direction.
Adjust
Based on the feedback received, you may want to adjust a few things you’re doing along the way. We all benefit from feedback as it is the minor to how others see us.
Share
Once you feel confident about what you’re doing and why, it is time to get out there and share it with the world. There are various ways to share your message from public speaking to using social media. A blog is a great way to journal your progress and provide others with ideas for how they may approach bringing a dream they have to life.
Remember
No matter how small, every effort you make is worth it and helps build upon new ideas that feed your confidence about the importance of your dream.
Planning is the first and most important step. Do something you love and that you’re really interested in.
To develop a plan, you’ll want to think about:
- what actions or changes do you need to make
- how are you (and perhaps others) going to make the changes happen
- what timeframe will they take place (by when and how long?)
- what resources you are going to need (time, money, people support)
- who needs to know about your plan (who can help you?)
Then commit to the plan and stick with it. If you get stuck, it helps to look for support so that you don’t feel isolated in your efforts. Do research on the internet and connect with like-minded friends, colleagues or people in the community who share your interest and who you trust.

- Breathe deeply and then release anything that doesn’t serve you well.
- Be yourself and believe in the power of your dream.
- Keep a positive attitude and believe that great things will happen.
