Lately, I've been asked to create video messages. Some are as short as 30 seconds and some messages are much longer. I am lucky that my parents help we make and post these videos. It is pretty easy to do with a little support. Just like anything, it takes a bit of time to think about what you want to say and why you want to share it. Do a YouTube video. Everything worth doing takes a bit of planning. I like to write out what I want to say using Keynote on my iPad. Images help me get really clear about my message. I'm really thankful that I am growing up in a time when we have computers and social media. I love that I can tweet, blog and make a YouTube video that can be watched by friends and supporters all over the world and especially in Cape Town, South Africa for all the Ocean Warriors at www.aoca.org.za. Here's to sharing your message and remember, even the smallest voice can make a huge difference. Time to share your message. Are you ready?

I've got a new logo and some new photos on my website that I'm so excited to share with everyone. I did this for a lot of reasons. My mentor, Lesley Rochat has a new website called SharkWarrior.com. I'm really lucky to be one of the four ambassadors on the website. I'm also going to have a chance to present again! On March 27, 2013, I'm really happy to be sharing my message about saving our oceans and sharks with all the students and grown-ups attending TEDxWaterloo Youth. What's that, you ask? Well, TEDxWaterloo Youth is part of TEDxWaterloo. I got this from the TEDxWaterloo website: "We are a group of volunteers who are passionate about bringing the TED mission of Ideas Worth Spreading to our community. Tapping into the local hotbed of creativity, technology, education and innovation, we are combining our skills, talents, expertise and enthusiasm to bring you remarkable speakers with powerful ideas. As we enter into our third successful year, TEDxWaterloo continues to be completely volunteer run and supported by many generous community-minded companies and organizations. We invite you to be part of this shared experience. TED, by the way, is an acronym for Technology, Entertainment, Design." TEDxWaterloo Youth is about "chasingHOME – a celebration of young minds and the thought leaders of tomorrow. Designed specifically for youth by youth, TEDxYouth@Waterloo showcases the talents, creativity and imagination of some of the most diverse and interesting speakers in Canada while enabling the spark of ideas worth spreading." I'm really looking forward to being a voice for our oceans and helping people find ways to be a voice for something they are passionate about. There are so many ways we can make a difference at home, in our community and in the world. Chasing Home is all of those things for me. Most of all, it is about reminding people that they are not alone. What they believe in is important and when they tell someone about it, their message can grow wings and find its way home to the hearts of others. Remember everyone - with every drop of water we drink, we're connected to the oceans and we're connected to each other. You're not alone. I'm right here with you. Keep on believing that you can make change happen. You can make a difference! Every day I've been waiting and checking my email inbox for a letter from Prime Minister Stephen Harper. I know he must be really busy and my mom told me that I might not get a reply, but that I should keep being a voice for our sharks and our oceans. On Friday, I got an email from "The Office of the Prime Minister". It was sent to me and Mr. Ritz and Mr. Ashfield too. Here it is: Prime Minister/Premier Ministre I am going to email the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and the Minister of Fisheries. I know the sharks would want me too. I have to do this for our sharks and our oceans. Will you email them too?
Desire2Learn Mobilize Conference Nov 26 Wow. I can't believe it. It seems like so long ago when Mr. Shawn McEwen asked me if I would like to speak at Desire2Learn's Mobilize Thought Leader Conference at Bingeman Park on November 26. It is tomorrow! Crazy! I am sooo excited to get to share my message about saving our sharks and our oceans. Even more cool is that I get to talk about technology and social media. I love technology. It has done so much for me. Because of social media, I can blog and I get to read nice comments from people who read my blog. It encourages me and pushes me forward to keep sharing my message. I also use Twitter. My 'handle' is @sharkwarriorjr. I like to tweet about guess what? You know it -- saving our oceans and our endangered sharks. Yup, its true. I like to use technology and I research on the Internet A LOT. I follow my heroes at AfriOceans Conservation Alliance - Lesley Rochat (Founder and THE Shark Warrior) and Terry Corr (Head of Education). I also watch amazing videos about the oceans, sharks and all kinds of marine life. Oh, back to tomorrow's conference. I'm stoked to listen to all the other presenters. The agenda looks really awesome! Check it out at D2L's Mobilize Conference. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get to talk to the other presenters and lots of the attendees. I'm really hoping to meet Jian Ghomeshi, the host of Q on CBC Radio. My parents are fans of Q and I am too. I couldn't believe that Jian interviewed Van Morrison and Goyte. Jian and I have a few things in common including the fact that we both LOVE to eat Pistachios. Jian is the closing keynote speaker at the Mobilize Conference tomorrow. Who says you can't be excited for Monday to arrive. With D2L's conference tomorrow....I can't wait!! One more sleep to go!!! |
